Police have seized 86 cannabis plants from a rural property in the state’s north-west during a targeted search operation.

The “significant quantity” of plants were found at a private residence at Hellyer on Thursday by a specialist police taskforce and the dog detector unit.

Police say various smoking devices were also found at the home.

Two men, a 54-year-old and a 44-year-old, were taken into custody during the raid and have been charged with trafficking and multiple minor drug-related offences.

Both suspects were released on bail and are scheduled to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 57-year-old man, who was also taken into custody, will face minor drug offence charges via a summons.

Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said Tasmania Police remained committed to removing drugs from the community.

“Illicit drug use is concerning for all Tasmanians – we see the impacts not only on the user but also their families, friends and the community as a whole,” she said.

“We will continue to target criminals involved in the manufacture and distribution of drugs.”
