A Tasmanian woman has been caught drink driving at more than five times the legal alcohol limit, not once but twice in just 12 hours.
The 44-year-old from Deloraine in the state’s north was first stopped by police around 11:30pm on Friday as she drove with a breath alcohol reading of 0.270.
She was arrested and charged with drink driving and immediately disqualified from driving for two years.
Less than 12 hours later at 11am on Saturday, police received reports of an SUV being driving dangerously in the Deloraine area.
Inspector Grant Twining said investigations revealed it was the same vehicle stopped the previous night being driven by the same woman.
She was arrested again and this time returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.258.
“It is disappointing and inexcusable that some members of the public continue to ignore the drink driving laws and put themselves, their family and the rest of the community at risk,” Twining said.
“Our message cannot be clearer. You cannot drive safely if you have been drinking. If you want to drink alcohol, then do not drive”.
The woman has been released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.
