When contacted by Pulse, police initially said they were unable to confirm specific details surrounding the incident and advised people to stay away from the immediate area.

A statement issued some time later confirmed police were called to the area due to a “concern for welfare for a man inside a residence”.

“Police are communicating with a man at the scene, who is believed to be in possession of a firearm,” they said.

“There is no one else inside the residence and there are no reports of injuries.”

“The public are asked to avoid the immediate area where possible to allow police to deal with the incident.”

The road remains blocked at the intersections of Morrison Street with Racecourse Road and Elderslie Road.
