A young P-plater has ben caught more than six times over the legal alcohol limit while driving through Newnham.
The 22-year-old woman was stopped by police on Swan Street around 6:10pm on Wednesday following a tip-off from a concerned member of the public.
A breathalyser test revealed she had a blood alcohol content of 0.319, more than six times the limit of 0.05 for fully licensed drivers.
The woman’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days and her driver’s licence was suspended for 12 months.
She will appear in court at a later date.
“Inexperience combined with high-range drink driving could have had a devastating outcome,” police said.
“Police urge all motorists to remember that driving with alcohol or drugs in your body increases your risk of killing or seriously injuring yourself or someone else in a crash.”
“Police will continue to proactively patrol the roads to ensure everyone is doing the right thing.”
