Police have uncovered a range of traffic violations during a four-hour blitz on Bruny Island targeting tour buses and passenger vehicles.
The joint operation on North Bruny yesterday involved officers from Alonnah Police Station and the Transport Safety and Investigation Unit.
Police said they focused on commercial tour operators as tourist numbers continue to surge on the popular island.
They said the influx of visitors has had a “flow-on impact in areas such as traffic offences, trespassing and avoidance of national park entry fees”.
Officers detected several offences during the operation, including three vehicle defect notices and one unlicensed driver.

They also found an unregistered public passenger vehicle and issued a speeding fine to a driver caught travelling at 80km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Other violations included seized number plates from a long-term unregistered vehicle and two cases of unrestrained passengers.
Twenty roadside breath tests were carried out during the blitz, all returning negative results, police said.
Bruny Island, accessible by ferry from Kettering, attracts more than 150,000 visitors each year.
