A business case is in the works to “evaluate potential upgrades” of Stanley’s wharf infrastructure.

TasPorts is leading the project and has made a “commitment to working with the Stanley community” to explore all future options.

The wharf in the north-west coast town has long struggled with access restrictions and safety concerns.

In 2019, it was reported that there was a growing level of community frustration over the delay in any works.

That same year, it was confirmed that the structure would not be demolished and that plans were underway to remediate it to a safe level.

Now, TasPorts’ Group Executive for Major Projects Assets and Technical Services Michel de Vos says they’re actively looking at potential solutions.

“We understand and appreciate the community’s interest in seeing upgrades to these important assets, given its role in local recreation and maritime activities,” he said.

“As a non-commercial port, however, any investment requires careful planning and funding consideration.”

Any future work will need to provide value for both the community and Tasmania, de Vos added.

“Our focus is on finding a solution that balances community needs with financial sustainability.”
