Pole fire cuts power to hundreds of Margate homes

A pole fire has knocked out power to 670 properties around Margate and Howden in Kingborough this afternoon.

TasNetworks say power may not be restored to affected areas until at least 8pm.

Police say emergency services are on the scene, with Beach Road closed from Carrington Drive to Dru Point Park.

Emergency services are investigating the cause of the incident, with people asked to avoid the area until further notice.
