A newly installed wildlife warning sign on a highway north of Launceston has become the target of a thirsty prank.
The sign, which warns drivers about the risk of deer on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, was changed to promote beer when an unknown person changed the ‘D’ to a ‘B’.
The prankster carefully taped a collection of empty Du Cane and Tassie Brew Ale cans down the pole.
The change amused social media users in the Chit Chat Launceston group, before contractors restored the sign not long after.

While many can see the funny side, the state government has warned the prank can potentially carry serious consequences.
Under the Tasmanian Traffic Regulations 1999, defacing road signs can result in a maximum penalty of 20 penalty units, equivalent to a $4040 fine.

State Growth say the wildlife warning signs alert drivers to the presence of animals to reduce roadkill and the risk to motorists.
The installation of the new deer signs have come in response to growing concerns about wild deer populations across the state.
According to the government data, 65 motor vehicle crashes involving deer were recorded in the eight years to 2021.
Anyone who sees damaged signs or other hazards on the state road network are encouraged to contact State Growth via their 24-hour hotline on 1300 139 933.
