The next Tasmanian Government will be made up of the Liberals and the Jacqui Lambie Network (JLN), Premier Jeremy Rockliff has confirmed.

On Wednesday, more than two weeks after the state election, Rockliff said an agreement that “delivers stability and certainty” had been reached between the Liberals and JLN MPs Miriam Beswick, Andrew Jenner and Rebekah Pentland.

“All parties have entered into this agreement with goodwill and trust and I am confident that this agreement will provide the long-term certainty and stability the Tasmanian people expect,” Rockliff said.

“Importantly, the agreement ensures that the Tasmanian Parliament functions at its best and serves the best interests of Tasmanians.”

The agreement will take effect once the government is commissioned and will be reviewed in 12 months.

It outlines specific rules for the JLN MPs, including a 24-hour notice period if they decide to vote against the Government and mandates a weekly meeting between them and the Premier.

It includes plans for an “independent review of the state’s finances” to be conducted within six months that will involve “financial modelling to build the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Precinct”, along with assessments within 12 months into the Integrity Commission, Right to Information process and Political Donations.

Rockliff has also committed to immediately referring all public servants named for misconduct in the Commission of Inquiry to the appropriate authorities and to a “complete shutdown of the Ashley Detention Centre within the timeframe of this agreement”.

“I thank the JLN for their productive and collaborative approach that they have taken as we have worked towards an agreement.

“I look forward to working with the JLN and taking action on the things that matter to Tasmanians.”
