A unique blend of music and visual art will travel across Tasmania next week as award-winning pianist Miffy Wang embarks on a five-concert tour showcasing Tasmanian composers alongside specially commissioned paintings.
Wang, an Honours student at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music, will begin her tour in Queenstown on Monday before visiting Stanley, Launceston, Swansea and Hobart.
The tour follows Wang’s recent win of the 2025 Ossa Music Prize, valued at $13,000, which includes funding for the regional performances.
“By fostering a dialogue between music and art, I hope to create an experience that evokes a deep sense of place and which resonates with the audience’s memories of living in Tasmania” Wang said.

Her solo piano program features works by Tasmanian composers Don Kay and Maria Grenfell, accompanied by original paintings created by University of Tasmania art student Audrey Carter.
Carter’s artworks were commissioned specifically for the project, drawing inspiration from Wang’s Tasmanian piano repertoire and her own experiences of island life.

Wang began studying piano at the age of seven and has been under the tutelage of Shan Deng, Senior Lecturer in Keyboard at the University, since 2017. She completed her Bachelor of Music in 2024 and is a former member of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra.
The Ossa Prize, established in 2018 by University alumni Dr Rod Roberts and Mrs. Cecile Roberts, aims to help students pursue excellence in musicianship. Named after Tasmania’s highest mountain peak, the award supports emerging talent from the island state.
The Queenstown performance will be dedicated to the memory of Margaret Stoermer, with support provided by her family.
All concerts are free to attend, though bookings are essential due to limited seating. Tickets can be reserved through the University of Tasmania’s events website.
