Vandals have struck a key pit-stop in Tasmania’s Northern Midlands, leaving the site out of action for the long weekend.
Thieves allegedly stole the taps from the Old Bridge toilets in Perth, leaving the facilities unusable.
Northern Midlands Council said the taps were present when the toilets were opened on Friday morning, but cleaners discovered them missing while closing up in the evening.
“The water has been turned off to prevent further issues,” a spokesperson said.
“We are disappointed that this has occurred, as it not only affects our community assets but also inconveniences other members of the public who rely on these facilities.”
The spokesperson said repairs may not be possible until Tuesday due to the long weekend.
“We appreciate your understanding and encourage anyone with information to contact the Northern Midlands Council,” they said.
The toilets are located on the banks of the South Esk River adjacent to the Midland Highway.
