Police are searching for a driver who brought traffic to a standstill on a Hobart highway after stopping in the middle of an intersection to perform a burnout.
The incident happened on the Channel Highway at the Howden Road intersection near Margate around 7:50pm last Saturday.
Police said the driver of a dark-coloured utility, thought to be a black Ford Falcon ute without a tray, stopped in the middle of the road and carried out the burnout.
The stunt created a “thick cloud of smoke which severely reduced visibility and put other road users at risk”, police said.
Witnesses told police the ute had a banner across the front windscreen that read “Not Weak to Speak.”
Police are calling for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
“Stamping out acts of hooning and dangerous driving is a priority for police,” a spokesperson said.
Hooning offences in Tasmania carry penalties including fines, licence suspension and vehicle impoundment.
Anyone with information can contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
