Queen Mary of Denmark has been spotted enjoying a ‘family break’ in Tasmania while taking some time off from her royal duties.

The Queen, her husband King Frederik and their three youngest children, Princess Isabella, 17, and 14-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, are believed to be on a private holiday away from Denmark.

Their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, 19, is acting as regent from Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 16, indicating that his father is out of the country.

The trip is understood to be centred around the seven-year anniversary of the passing of Frederik’s father, Prince Henrik, on Thursday February 13.

Exclusive Pulse images show Queen Mary touring the Salamanca Market this morning, joined by friends and family.

One onlooker reported seeing Queen Mary in high spirits while visiting her home town, stopping by local stalls at the weekly market.

Market visitors seemed blissfully unaware that they were in the presence of a Danish royal.

Mary, who was born in Hobart and went to Taroona High School, made a brief visit to Tasmania for the first time since she ascended the throne last October for the wedding of her niece.

In December, a blue gum tree was planted in Hobart’s Long Beach Park to mark the first anniversary of Queen Mary’s accession to the Danish throne.

The tree was planted by Danish Ambassador Ingrid Dahl-Madsen and local government representatives, following an overnight ceremony in Copenhagen where Queen Mary planted a reciprocal oak in the city’s largest park.

Mary ascended the throne in January 2024 after the shock abdication announcement by Queen Margrethe.

She made history by becoming the first ever Australian monarch.
