A Queensland man has died while bushwalking alone in Tasmania’s Southwest National Park.
Police were called to the Western Arthur Range area on Saturday after a personal locator beacon was activated around 11am.
The rescue helicopter was sent to the area and made contact with another bushwalker that had located an “unresponsive man” on the track.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The deceased is a 54-year-old man from Queensland,” a police spokesperson said.
“Initial investigations indicate there are no suspicious circumstances.”
“The matter has been reported to the coroner and further investigations will be undertaken.”
The incident comes after a man in his 60s died on Christmas Day while bushwalking at Cradle Mountain National Park.
Police have reminded bushwalkers of the dangers of the Tasmanian wilderness and advised against walking alone.
They also stressed the importance of carrying sufficient warm clothing, food and two-way emergency communication devices.
