Firefighters have made significant progress in containing bushfires in the Nugent area, with today’s rainfall providing crucial support to suppression efforts.
Around 80 personnel from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) and Sustainable Timbers Tasmania spent the day consolidating fire boundaries, using three bulldozers to strengthen containment lines.
Incident Controller Kier Wilson said easing conditions had helped efforts to suppress the fire.
“We would like to express our gratitude to our crews and supporting agencies who have worked hard to bring this fire under control,” Wilson said.

However, he warned residents not to become complacent, with the fire danger rating expected to climb back to moderate on Friday.
“While the threat has reduced and conditions have moderated, we encourage the community to remain vigilant over the coming days,” he said.

Three fires remain active within the Nugent area, with a bushfire advice warning in place for the area west of Nugent Road and surrounds.
“Residents are being encouraged to monitor conditions and to be alert and ready for any changes in the fire threat,” Wilson said.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
The TFS has urged communities to stay informed by checking TasAlert and reminded anyone requiring emergency assistance to call Triple Zero (000).
