A police officer has narrowly avoided a head-on crash with a reckless driver who overtook multiple vehicles on a blind corner in the state’s north this morning.
The officer was forced to take “evasive action” to avoid a Toyota Yaris driving on the wrong side of Bridport Road at around 9am on Friday.
According to police, the Yaris was heading north towards Bridport when it crossed a double white line to overtake several vehicles, including a semi-trailer, on a sweeping left-hand corner.
A marked police vehicle, travelling in the opposite direction, was forced to swerve to avoid the oncoming car.
The Yaris driver allegedly “continued towards Bridport at high speeds”, evading police while driving dangerously towards Pipers River.
Authorities are now appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the Yaris on Bridport Road at the time.
Police are urging members of the public to come forward to assist in identifying the driver.
