TasWater is urging people to reduce their water consumption as dry conditions continue, with some areas already experiencing low supply levels.

General Manager of Customer and Community Matt Balfe said bore levels on Lady Barron have “fallen to the lowest on record”, signalling potential restrictions if conditions don’t improve.

Residents in Orford and Triabunna are also being encouraged to cut back on water use, as local supply levels “continue to fall”.

“There has been patchy, but not significant rain over the last few weeks and the Bureau of Meteorology now predicts less rainfall for the next three months than originally forecast,” Balfe said.

“Conditions since the start of January have been dry across most of the state.”

While no formal restrictions are currently in place, Balfe said immediate action is needed to prevent them.

“It might seem like there is plenty of water around the state, but that is not the case,” he said.

“We will monitor the situation in both these communities closely with an update to be provided in the next week.”

Launceston and Strahan are also on notice, with flows in local rivers expected to remain low over the coming week.
