Richmond Football Club will establish a presence in Hobart following North Melbourne’s departure from Tasmania.

Negotiations between Richmond and the Tasmanian Government have been successful, with Premier Jeremy Rockliff confirming the news on Sunday evening.

“A fantastic chance for people to head along and watch four of Tassie’s finest, in Sam Banks, Ryan Mansell, Seth Campbell and skipper Toby Nankervis,” Rockliff said.

The lucrative deal is understood to relocate the Tigers’ single Marvel Stadium home game to Hobart’s Ninja Stadium for the next two seasons, starting in 2026.

The deal will last until Tasmania’s own AFL team, the Devils, enters the competition in 2028.

The arrangement is reportedly worth around $1 million per season for Richmond, a significant financial boost compared to their previous Marvel Stadium deal.

The development comes after North Melbourne announced last year that they would pull out of Tasmania entirely by the end of 2025.

North Melbourne CEO Jennifer Watt said at the time that the decision was made to secure the club’s financial future.

“The club began planning for our post-Tasmania future once Tasmania was granted an AFL licence,” she said.
