13 drivers were caught travelling at least 14km/h over the speed limit during a police operation at roadworks in Launceston’s north on Wednesday morning.
The worst offender was allegedly clocked at 62km/h in a signed 40km/h zone on the Kings Meadows Connector at Kings Meadows.
Tasmania Police said several workers were on site during the 90-minute operation, which was launched after traffic controllers raised safety concerns.
Police said officers would continue patrolling roadworks and enforcing reduced speed limits to protect workers.
“Everyone has a right to be safe on the road, particularly roadside workers who often operate on foot and close to the roadway,” police said.
“We can all play our part in road safety by slowing down and always sticking to reduced speed limits.”
