Robbie Fox will lead Tasmania into VFL history after being named the Devils’ first captain ahead of their debut 2026 season.
The 32-year-old Penguin product will captain the side with a five-person leadership group that includes vice-captain Jye Menzie, Brad Cox-Goodyer, Hugh Dixon and Caleb Mitchell.
Fox brings serious pedigree to the role after a nine-year AFL career with Sydney Swans, where he played 105 games and featured in grand finals in 2022 and 2024.
A proud product of Tasmania, the defender emerged as the obvious leader to steer the Devils through their foundation season.

“Being named captain of Tasmania is a huge honour and something I’m incredibly proud of,” Fox said.
“As a passionate Tasmanian, representing this state has always meant a lot to me, and to now lead the group in the state jumper is something I don’t take lightly.”

Fox said his appointment fulfilled a childhood dream of making a meaningful impact for Tasmania.
“Growing up, I always wanted to make a strong impact for Tasmania, this opportunity gives me the chance to do that in a new way,” he said.
The leadership group combines experience with emerging talent as the Devils prepare for their historic debut.
“I’m committed to leading through my actions, setting high standards, and helping create an environment where everyone can thrive,” Fox said.
He praised vice-captain Menzie as “an outstanding young leader” and highlighted the squad’s mix of local and interstate talent.
“With a strong mix of experienced players, youth, and talent from both Tasmania and interstate, there’s real belief in what we can achieve this year,” he said.
The Devils will open their inaugural VFL season against Coburg at North Hobart Oval on March 21.
