Former Sydney Swans utility Robbie Fox has signed with the Tasmania Football Club in a homecoming move that bolsters the state’s inaugural VFL squad.
Fox, a Penguin-born talent who carved out a 105-game AFL career, joins as one of the club’s most experienced recruits ahead of their entry into the VFL.
The versatile player returns to his home state after reaching multiple finals and grand finals during his time in the AFL system.
Tasmania Football Club Head of List Management and Strategy Todd Patterson said Fox’s addition is a significant endorsement of the new program.

“To be able to add someone of Robbie’s experience to our squad is a great sign of the belief in what we are building,” Patterson said.
“This is a young man who had to move to chase his dream and he has now made the conscious decision to come back and help others achieve what he has before.”

Fox, who initially left Tasmania to pursue university studies in Melbourne before being rookie-drafted into the AFL, said he is enthusiastic about contributing to the AFL’s future in his home state.
“To be a part of this club from the first VFL bounce is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Fox said.
“My discussions with the club have been so positive. I understand and believe in the opportunity of this club to have a huge impact across Tasmania and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”
The club’s Head of VFL and VFLW Aaron Pidgeon said Fox’s leadership qualities will be crucial for the new program.

“The addition of Robbie to the list adds a depth that we know will be so important to us as we enter the VFL,” Pidgeon said.
“Robbie will be a natural leader in this group and is committed to giving back to the group, this will be wonderful for the whole program.”

The Tasmania Football Club will commence pre-season training in November as they prepare for their inaugural VFL season.
