A young rock climber has survived a dramatic fall of up to 50 metres at Kunanyi/Mt Wellington after his climbing rope snagged and he landed in a tree canopy.
The man, aged in his early 20s, was rescued from the Organ Pipes climbing area on Friday afternoon in a joint operation involving Tasmania Police Search and Rescue officers and the rescue helicopter.

Emergency services received the alert about 3pm after the climber’s fall was broken when his rope caught and he hit the tree canopy.
Despite the significant height of the fall, authorities confirmed the man escaped without serious injuries.

Search and Rescue ground crew assisted in moving the injured climber to a location where he could be safely winched by the helicopter team.
