Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff has congratulated Prime Minister Anthony Albanese following the federal election and says he’ll be holding the re-elected Labor government to its campaign promises.
The Premier on Sunday afternoon said he had reached out to Albanese and looked forward to continuing a productive relationship.
“I believe very strongly that Tasmanians expect governments of different political colours to work well together,” Rockliff said.
“I commend the local Tasmanian Federal Liberal team on a hard-fought campaign and while I am disappointed for them, Australians have spoken.”

Rockliff said his government would be keeping a close eye on federal Labor’s delivery of key election commitments.
“Over the past three years the Prime Minister and I have demonstrated this on many important matters across health, education and infrastructure,” he said.
“That being said, we will keep the federal Labor government accountable to their promises and ensure they fulfil their commitments made throughout the election.”

Those promises, among a raft of others, include new Urgent Care Clinics in Sorell, Burnie and Kingston and $24 million to support the decarbonisation and diversification of the Boyer Paper Mill.
The Boyer package includes $9 million over two years to stabilise operations during the transition and $15 million in matched funding for electrification and emissions reduction projects.
Labor has also pledged $8 million to upgrade Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre.
“I will continue to advocate for an 80:20 federal-state infrastructure split to ensure we build on the momentum of constructing safer roads and bridges,” Rockliff added.
“We will also maintain our strong push for the federal government to fully fund its share of the Tasmanian health system.”
“Tasmania deserves nothing less than its fair share and I will continue to fight every day for the best deal for Tasmanians.”
