Premier Jeremy Rockliff has delivered a defiant message to Labor leader Dean Winter at the Tasmanian Liberal Party’s official campaign launch in Launceston today.
“Dean, I’m still here,” Rockliff told supporters, challenging what he described as Winter’s “grab for power”.
The party showcased its 35 candidates and their families at the rally, where Rockliff unveiled a $240 million pledge for a new Northern Health Complex at Launceston General Hospital.
“This $240 million investment will deliver 250 additional beds and will be directly linked to the LGH, as part of our long-term masterplan while also enabling the co-location of services in the future,” Rockliff said.

Rockliff, joined by family members including his wife, daughters and mother, warned voters about the risks of a hung parliament.
“Without a majority, it means Labor and the Greens can get in the way with more deals, more delays, more politics,” he said.

The Premier took aim at independents, suggesting they contribute to political instability.
“Independents – especially those single issues independents – are not the answer. They are threatening the very future of our state,” Rockliff said.
Former federal MP and current Bass candidate Bridget Archer also addressed the crowd, acknowledging the unexpected nature of her campaign.
“This was not on my bingo card for 2025,” Archer said, adding she was ready to fight for Tasmania alongside Rockliff and the team.

Meanwhile, Shadow Health Minister Ella Haddad said the Liberals’ “big election announcement” in the new Northern Health Complex is old news.
“[It] is a project the Liberals promised five years and two early elections ago. It beggars’ belief that this is the best he has got,” she said.
“Tasmanians are sick of Liberal promises that never get delivered. It’s time for change and the only way to get the Fresh Start Tasmania needs is to vote Labor.”
