A Year 7 student at Hutchins School was left feeling unsafe after they were approached by a man in a white vehicle while walking home from school last Thursday.

The incident around 4pm on Lipscombe Avenue near Dresden Street in Sandy Bay is the second involving a man in a white vehicle in as many weeks, according to Principal Dr Rob McEwan.

Dr McEwan said the man was standing outside his vehicle and gestured towards the student while wearing a green fluorescent work vest.

“I ask that all parents/carers remain vigilant. Those with children in the Junior and Middle School, calmly reiterate personal safety messages and the need for children to be wary of strangers,” he wrote.

McEwan advised parents to teach students to immediately report any suspicious behaviour to them or school staff.

He said Tasmania Police were notified of the incident “immediately” and are making enquiries.
