After learning this weekend’s Salamanca Market was cancelled due to severe weather, a donut maker found a heartwarming way to use up $4,000 worth of stock.

Rather than letting the sweet treats go to waste, Salamanca Coffee and Donuts owner Qing decided to donate them.

Instead of serving them to customers, she delivered 900 donuts to staff and patients at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

“Instead of just wasting them in the rubbish bin, [this] is much better,” she said.

The closure of the popular market and tourist drawcard impacted hundreds of stallholders, many of whom solely rely on income from the event to support their families.

It was the first time in over 10 years that the weekly market has been cancelled due to weather.
