Saltburn star Jacob Elordi protests against Tasmanian salmon industry on the red carpet

Australian actor Jacob Elordi has made waves at a Melbourne screen premiere by wearing a protest shirt condemning Tasmania’s salmon industry.

The Euphoria and Saltburn star joined director Justin Kurzel and author Richard Flanagan on the red carpet for the Australian premiere of their new Amazon Prime series, The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

Instead of the usual designer attire, Elordi was pictured wearing a black shirt with the message “Eating Salmon? Killing Tasmania” – merchandise from activist organisation Neighbours of Fish Farming (NOFF).

The appearance has drawn drew attention to ongoing controversies surrounding Tasmania’s aquaculture industry, which continues to face criticism over environmental practices.

Peter George, Independent Candidate for Franklin at the Federal Election, was at the premiere and shared the moment on social media,.

“If ever the world was going to get the message, this is it,” he said.

“The globally known Jacob Elordi and Tasmanian Author Richard Flanagan stole the red carpet with a singular message: Eating Salmon? Killing Tasmania.”

Flanagan, whose novel forms the basis for the miniseries, is also the author of “Toxic: The Rotting Underbelly of the Tasmanian Salmon Industry”.
