SES crews are preparing for potential flooding as heavy rain is forecast to continue to lash Tasmania.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued flood warnings for several rivers across the state, including the Derwent River and areas including Bushy Park, Gretna and New Norfolk.
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have been working around the clock to prepare sandbags in preparation for the possible flooding.
“With the rain still coming down and the waters slowly rising, the next few days in the Derwent Valley could be interesting,” the local SES team said.
“Hopefully, we won’t have to use [the sandbags], but it’s always better to be ready.”
The BOM predicts flooding in nearby streams and rivers over the next three to four days, with some low-lying properties potentially becoming isolated.
“Property, livestock, equipment and crops in low lying areas may be at risk from flood waters,” the BOM said.
“Driving conditions may be dangerous.”
The SES has advised residents in the alert areas to activate their flood emergency plans and be prepared to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.
“For emergency flood and storm assistance call the SES on 132 500,” the service said.
