New concept images of a proposed ferry terminal in Sandy Bay have been unveiled, featuring a design similar to that of the recently approved Bellerive terminal.
The planned expansion comes in response to the success of the existing Bellerive to Hobart ferry route, which attracted over 120,000 passengers in its first year of operation.
In December, council staff selected Lords Beach near Wrest Point as the preferred terminal location and are now inviting public input on the project.
If approved, construction will have to be completed by mid-next year.

Concept designs include a kiosk, toilets, bicycle storage and charging stations for electric micro-mobility devices.
Improved lighting throughout the terminal and surrounding areas is also planned to improve safety.

The council anticipates the new terminal will provide better public transport options for Eastern Shore students attending Mt Carmel College, Fahan School and Hutchins School.
University of Tasmania staff and students are expected to benefit from a Sandy Bay route, while it could also alleviate traffic congestion on both sides of the river.
Nearby residents last year expressed concerns with the location of the new terminal, noting they were not consulted before the plans were made public.
During a council meeting last year, residents proposed pausing the project to explore alternative locations, including the Scout Hall off Marieville Esplanade and Long Beach.
