A seal has caused a stir after being found lounging on a road near Bridgewater in southern Tasmania.

Police were called to the scene on Tuesday after a motorist spotted the unexpected visitor near the Brighton Industrial Hub.

The driver said they came across the seal while leaving the Bridgewater Quarry.

“The things you see when commuting home,” they posted online.

They speculated the seal may have made its way up the nearby Jordan River, which winds through the area before joining the River Derwent.

“Police were called to assist after a seal-y visitor decided to take a break on a busy road in southern Tasmania,” police said.

“While this marine visitor might look cute and cuddly, it’s important to remember that seals are wild animals and can be unpredictable.”

“If you spot a seal where you least expect it, resist the urge to view up close.
Instead, give them space and let the experts handle it.”
