Helicopter search underway after boat washes ashore at Kingston Beach

Updated 6:40pm, Wednesday October 2: Police say there is still no sign of the person believed to have been onboard a vessel which washed ashore on Kingston Beach this afternoon.

Multiple air and sea crews are continuing to search the area between Kingston Beach and Opossum Bay, after the white flybridge cruiser washed up just after 2pm.

The boat has now been towed away by police, while anyone with information on the boat and its owner is urged to contact authorities.

Earlier: An unattended boat has washed ashore at Kingston Beach, sparking a search for what is thought to be missing people.

The white flybridge cruiser with a small inflatable dingy attached beached south of Hobart at around 2:05pm on Wednesday.

Police and emergency services, including two rescue helicopters, have since launched a search of the area.

Crews on the water and above are searching the area from Tinderbox Point across to Opossum Bay.

“Police, including marine resources and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, are currently conducting a search of the area and making enquiries in relation to the owner of the vessel,” a spokesperson said.

“Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police on 131 444. Quote ESCAD 211-02102024.”
