Police will continue their search today for a small plane and two people who have been missing since Saturday afternoon over Bass Strait.

Tasmania Police Inspector Craig Fox said the police helicopter and marine vessel Cape Wickham would be out again today, continuing efforts to find Gregory Vaughan and his partner Kim Worner.

The couple were flying their distinctive green Bristell aircraft to central New South Wales when it vanished nearly a week ago.

“On Thursday, the police helicopter conducted sweeps of the Furneaux Island group including Flinders Island, Cape Barren Island and Chappell Island, plus other smaller islands,” Fox said.

“Unfortunately, there was no sight of the plane or any other factors, such as debris, which may indicate its potential location.”

The two-seater light sport aircraft took off from George Town Airport at 12:45pm on Saturday but never arrived at its intended destination.

Family members raised the alarm on Saturday evening when the pair failed to arrive as expected.

Today’s search will focus on the northern Tasmanian coastline, using drift modelling from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to guide crews based on how debris might move with ocean currents.

Inspector Fox said investigators have found no indication of foul play in the disappearance.

“There is no evidence to suggest the circumstances of the missing plane are suspicious,” he said.
