Owner of kayak and paddle found floating in water located following helicopter search near Murdunna

The rescue helicopter is searching for a kayaker in Tasmania’s south after an unattended kayak was found floating in the water this morning.

The red kayak was spotted around 8:25am on Monday in the Murdunna area, about 50 minutes east of Hobart.

Police said a Kong dog feeding toy was found on top of the kayak and a paddle was nearby.

“If this is your kayak, please phone police on 131 444 to let them know you’re ok,” a spokesperson said.

“If you know of anyone who was kayaking in the area and is unaccounted for, please contact police.”

Updated, 10:05am Monday: Police say the owner of the kayak has since been located “safe and well”.
