Missing boatie found after extensive search of Lake Burbury on Tasmania’s West Coast

A West Coast man is missing this morning after failing to return from a boating trip on Lake Burbury yesterday.

The 75-year-old from Gormanston, a small town just outside Queenstown, was reported missing Friday afternoon.

Police believe the man set off from the Linda Creek Boat Ramp on the western side of the lake earlier that morning.

Concern grew when his vehicle and boat trailer were found parked at the ramp on Friday evening.

A land and water search was undertaken overnight but failed to locate him.

Helicopters joined the resumed search operation at first light today.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen a small, light-coloured sailing boat on the lake to come forward with information.

Lake Burbury, one of the largest hydro lakes on the West Coast, is a popular destination and considered by many anglers to be among Tasmania’s best fishing spots.

Updated 11am, Saturday December 21: Police say the missing man has been found safe and well.

They said he sustained no significant injuries and thanked members of the public for their help.
