A magnitude 2.5 earthquake has struck Tasmania’s north-east coast near Bridport this evening, the region’s second tremor in just days.
The quake occurred at 7:56pm on Tuesday at a depth of nine kilometres, according to preliminary data released by Geoscience Australia.
Seismic monitoring stations across Tasmania’s north detected the tremor, with the first readings captured by equipment at Lilydale High School approximately 11 seconds after the initial event.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located about 34 kilometres from Lilydale’s monitoring station and was also detected by equipment at Coronation Park, Gladstone, and Parklands High School.

It is second earthquake in Tasmania’s north in recent days, following a magnitude 3.1 tremor in the same location on Sunday afternoon.
