A mystery shopper has brought Christmas cheer to families in Tasmania’s north-west after paying off all outstanding laybys at Kmart Devonport.
The generous act has delighted shoppers, staff and the wider community, with one grateful customer describing the anonymous giver as “such a generous human who absolutely deserves all the good in the world”.
The good samaritan not only cleared all existing laybys but also made a contribution to the annual Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, according to store management.
A Kmart spokesperson told Pulse they were “overwhelmed” by the act of kindness.

“Every year, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of Australians and the compassion they show for others, particularly during the festive season,” the spokesperson said.
“At Kmart Devonport, this generosity was on full display when a local community member paid off all lay-bys and made a contribution to the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal.”

While the company declined to reveal the exact amount paid, they confirmed all customer laybys within the store had been settled.
The act has provided significant relief for many families struggling with cost-of-living pressures during the festive period.
One customer said the gesture came at the perfect time.
“As someone who had a layby on there and had it paid off by this man I am so grateful. We’ve been finding it quite tough lately (as I’m sure a lot of people are),” they said.
