SES emergency response crews were called to St David’s Cathedral on Hobart’s Macquarie Street tonight after a large branch fell on the roof of the church.
Speaking to Pulse, the SES say a “freak gust” of wind – or an ‘act of god’ – caused the branch to snap off of the tree.

They added that while the branch did land on the roof, it was able to be removed via a “pulley system” with minimal damage.
SES crews have since cut the fallen branch into manageable pieces to be removed from the scene.
No injures were reported as a result of the incident.
The age and significance of the tree is not known.
