Tasmanians in the state’s north-east and along the east coast are being warned to brace for a severe heatwave this weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the Furneaux Islands, North East and East Coast Districts.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to high twenties over the weekend, with some areas climbing above 30 degrees on Saturday.
“Severe heatwave conditions are expected to ease after the weekend,” the BOM said.
“Locations likely to be impacted include Fingal and Whitemark.”
The state’s south will also be affected by the heat, with New Norfolk and the Derwent Valley forecast to reach 32 degrees on Saturday.
Launceston is expected to hit 31 degrees and Hobart 28 degrees over the weekend.
The Midlands, Huon Valley and north-east are all likely to see temperatures in the low thirties.
Rosebery on the West Coast will reach 28 degrees and St Helens in the east 27 degrees on Saturday.
