A Richmond man says his fingertips went numb from shock after learning he had won $1.6 million in the weekend’s lotto draw.

The Tasmanian held one of four division one winning entries nationwide in Saturday’s TattsLotto, taking home $1,631,770.49 just days before his birthday.

“$1.6 million?! This doesn’t feel real,” he told lottery officials when they rang him this morning. “I have no feelings in my fingertips now!”

The winner initially ignored several missed calls from Brisbane because he didn’t recognise the number.

It was only after listening to a voicemail asking him to contact The Lott that reality began to sink in.

“I immediately said, ‘No! No! It can’t be!’ I only ever win small amounts,” he said.

The man, who is nearing retirement age, said the windfall would make a big difference.

“This changes a few plans for work … this means I might be able to retire earlier,” he said.

“I’m not going to rush though. I’ll put the prize into a bank account and have a long think.”

His win adds to Tasmania’s lottery success this year, with 14 major wins collectively worth more than $10.85 million.

The winning numbers were 23, 6, 38, 1, 15 and 18, with supplementary numbers 32 and 24.
