A privately-owned Hobart crisis boarding house has come under fire after a video was uploaded to TikTok showing the poor and uninhabitable conditions of the property.

The video, which was filmed by Alison Dunning, shows overflowing toilets and sinks, broken fixtures, piles of clutter, graffiti, and a syringe on the floor among other unsanitary conditions.

The video has sparked outrage on social media, with many questioning how anyone could live in such conditions.

Ms. Dunning, who filmed the video, expresses her disgust and questions how anyone, let alone children under the care of the Child Safety Service, could live in such conditions.

Flint House is described as “crisis accommodation with individual rooms, free Wi-Fi, and continental breakfasts.”

The property is advertised as having “upgraded” shared bathroom facilities and access to an industrial kitchen and cooking areas, with rent assistance available from $175 per week.

A spokesperson for the State Housing Minister said that as the property is privately owned, the government could not comment.

The Flint House has been privately owned for some time, and was last sold in March 2020 for $1,114,229.

The video has raised serious questions about the standard of privately-owned crisis accommodation in Hobart and the government’s oversight of such properties.

The shocking footage serves as a reminder of the need for proper regulation and oversight to ensure that the most vulnerable members of society are not subjected to substandard living conditions.
