The General Manager of the Burnie City Council has decided to call it quits, exactly four years since his appointment.
Simon Overland announced his retirement on Wednesday, which council staff say will come into effect on November 3.
“Mr Overland told the Council that he has been considering his future for some time now,” a spokesperson said.
“He advised that he has decided that he should not work out the remainder of his current five-year contract.”
Overland will return to Melbourne, where he previously worked as the Victorian police commissioner, at the end of his time with the north-west council.

“Council will shortly commence the recruitment process for this important role,” the spokesperson said.
In February, Overland apologised after the council made a social media post that appeared to take a dig at one of the city’s councillors.
Members of the local community criticised the council for using its social media platform in a ‘bullying manner’.
