Hobart’s bookshops are joining a worldwide celebration of local literature next month, inviting readers to discover hidden literary gems across the city.
The Global Book Crawl will run from April 20-26, connecting bookstores and book lovers in a week-long adventure through local literary culture.
Six Hobart bookshops have signed up for the event, Fullers Bookshop on Collins Street, Hobart Bookshop in Salamanca Square, Cracked and Spineless in Imperial Arcade, Dymocks in Centrepoint Shopping Centre, Five Leaves Left on Victoria Street and State Bookstore in North Hobart.
Participants collect stamps in a special passport by visiting multiple bookshops, with opportunities to meet local authors and attend family activities.

“The inaugural Global Book Crawl was so much fun,” Mark Rubbo, the Readings Chairman and Australian organiser said.
“Thousands of Australian readers spent the week discovering the joys of their local bookshops.”

The initiative aims to strengthen community bonds between bookshops and readers while celebrating local authors, publishers and literary culture.
“For 2026 we’ve added many more bookshops and states and again will be joining bookshops around the world to celebrate,” Rubbo said.
“We’re also adding some exciting surprises for everyone who joins their crawl.”
Passports will be available at participating bookshops from April, with organisers encouraging participants to share their discoveries on social media using #globalbookcrawl.
