A man has lost his licence for two years after police allegedly caught him drinking alcohol behind the wheel, with a blood alcohol reading almost five times the legal limit.
The 26-year-old was pulled over on Saturday night on Pipers River Road at Karoola, near Scottsdale, in the state’s north-east.
Police said his black Honda Accord was spotted weaving across road markings and travelling well below the speed limit.
Officers allege the man, from Newnham, returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.244 when breath-tested about 8:30pm. The legal limit is 0.05.
“Police will allege the vehicle was failing to maintain road position, crossing double white lines and travelling at 60km/h under the speed limit,” police said.
“The driver was consuming alcohol whilst driving.”
The man, who held an international licence, was immediately disqualified and charged.
He will face court on charges of driving under the influence of liquor, exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and possessing an open container of liquor on a public street.
