Smoke billows as car erupts into flames on Hobart’s Southern Outlet

Emergency services have rushed to tackle a vehicle fire causing disruption on one of Hobart’s key arterial roads this afternoon.

The blaze erupted on the Kingston-bound Southern Outlet just 200 metres from the Davey Street intersection around 4:50pm.

The vehicle was described as being “fully engulfed” in flames, with thick smoke visible from across the city.

Police and fire crews are currently on scene attempting to control the situation and manage traffic.

“Motorists, please avoid the area and delay travel on the Southern Outlet until the incident is cleared,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
