Residents across Hobart have reported thick smoke as the Tasmania Fire Service carries out fuel reduction burns.
A larger burn covering about 60 hectares at Mount Nelson is expected to take two to three days to complete.
A second, smaller burn of about nine hectares is underway on Strickland Avenue in South Hobart.
The Tasmania Fire Service says there is no threat to communities from either burn, but has issued a smoke alert.

“This burn is part of the state-wide fuel reduction program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities,” the service said.
The TFS has warned smoke from the burns may persist for several days, depending on wind conditions.

People are being urged to stay clear of both sites while burning is underway and in the days following, until safety checks of tracks and trails are completed.
