Tasmania’s Easter long weekend is set to get chilly tomorrow, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting that the Antarctic front will deliver Hobart’s ‘coldest day of the year’ so far as temperatures fall to 10C.

The bureau also expects snowfalls on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, with the snow likely to be visible in places like Kunanyi/Mt Wellington, where the summit has been closed in preparation for a light dusting.

Easter snow on the way for Tasmania

Winter is coming early for Tasmania, as a cooler south-westerly weather system moves in over the Easter long weekend.

The state is expected to experience its first snowfall of the month, with peaks in the southern half of Tassie set to be dusted in white.

The Bureau of Meteorology say the snow is expected to arrive late Saturday afternoon, with the cooler air pushing through the state’s southern half.

Alex Melitsis from the BOM tells Pulse the snowfall will be light, with a smattering of snow across the region, and not a big dumping, according to meteorologists.

The colder air will continue to push through the region on Sunday, with the coldest air expected to arrive in the morning.

The snowfall is expected to be at its heaviest on Sunday morning, with areas above 700-800 meters in altitude set to experience the most significant snow accumulation.

While the snowfall is not expected to cause any significant disruptions, authorities are urging caution for those planning to venture out this weekend, calling on everybody to stay safe.
