Somerset man arrested after police seize firearms and drugs

A 37-year-old Somerset man is facing multiple charges after police discovered an arsenal of weapons and illegal substances during a property search in Tasmania’s north-west.

The raid, conducted on Tuesday, uncovered several firearms including a sawn-off rifle and a taser, alongside zip-lock bags containing methylamphetamine.

Officers from Burnie Police, the Western Drugs and Firearms Unit, dog unit and specialist resources participated in the operation, which also resulted in the seizure of ammunition, cash and suspected stolen power tools.

Police allege the man possessed firearms that were unregistered and had been illegally shortened.

Authorities also claim the weapons were not stored securely and the man did not hold the appropriate licence to possess such items.

The man has been taken into custody and will face court on multiple charges related to the illegal possession of firearms and drugs.

Police have urged members of the public to report any information regarding illicit firearms or drug activity.
