Residents in parts of Tasmania’s Southern Midlands are being urged to check their bushfire plans as firefighters tackle a blaze in the Stonehenge area.
Tasmania Fire Services crews are currently working to extinguish a blaze east of Whitefoord, which they say is travelling towards Tin Pot Marsh Road, Stonehenge.
The TFS say while there is “no immediate threat” at this stage, all residents need to stay informed.
“Conditions are expected to worsen. If you have a bushfire plan, check it now,” TFS say.

“Well prepared homes are expected to be defendable in these conditions.”
“Monitor conditions, and if they get more dangerous, and you are not well prepared, plan to go to a safer place.”
The Director of Community Fire Safety at the Tasmania Fire Service, Chris Collins, warned in August that the state will see a ‘potentially challenging’ fire season this year.
“I can almost guarantee we’re going to see a more active bushfire season this year than what we’ve experienced for the last three and that has implications if people in those vulnerable, bushfire-prone areas are not prepared,” Collins said.
