A 46-year-old man has been arrested after police were called to an armed incident at a Penguin residence on Saturday morning.
Officers responded to reports of a person armed with a knife inside a home in the north-west Tasmanian town at 10am.
The man was alone in the residence and posed no threat to the wider community, police said.
Specialist police resources were deployed to handle the situation, which was resolved a short time later.
“A number of specialist resources were deployed and the incident was resolved peacefully,” police said.
Police thanked Penguin residents for their patience and cooperation during the operation.
Police have not released details about what led to the armed confrontation or whether charges will be laid.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
