A specialist Tasmania Police taskforce set up in 2023 to target repeat offenders has resulted in 669 people being charged with over 2,000 offences in the last year.

Inspector John Toohey, Officer in Charge of Hobart Division, said officers will continue to find and catch repeat offenders who continue to do the wrong thing in the community.

“Taskforce Saturate is a prime example of our commitment to reducing crime,” he said.

“We know that a relatively small number of people in our community are responsible for a significant amount of offences.”

Charges have been laid over a wide range of crimes, including aggravated armed robbery, aggravated burglary, stealing, assault, breach of bail, drug and firearm offences, dangerous driving, evade police and disqualified driving.

“Our Saturate officers work tirelessly to identify and apprehend these offenders … We are committed to creating a safer and more secure environment for all Tasmanians and we encourage anyone who witnesses illegal or anti-social behaviour to call police on 131 444, or Triple-Zero (000) in an emergency.”
